Geelong based Gene Bradley Fisk takes us on a colourful trip that began at age of 11 when he played mandolin and banjo in the Colac banjo club.

Gene, now 90, joined RAAF at 15 and fronted The Strangers band while stationed in Malaysia.

He hosted radio shows on 3HA Hamilton and other rural towns before hitting the big smoke and hosting country music shows on 3UZ from 1977-1980 and 3GL Geelong.

Gene, who has recorded with his DJ daughter and singer-songwriter Donna, now 60, travels from Geelong each week to host his popular weekly music show on Wyn-FM in Werribee.

Gene and Donna honoured a late Pentridge prisoner’s poetry in one of his previous Nu Country videos after he received the poem in the mail from Gary David Webb after he performed a concert at Pentridge for staff and prisoners in the seventies.

Webb, a drummer, died in1993 after sending his poem to Gene.

Gene’s Weekend Cowboy single made newspaper headlines after he performed at concerts and on his CDs after Nu Country TV producer David Dawson interviewed him about the song source.

Gene and Donna and their band revived his song in a live video at the Bleak House in Malmsbury.

Fisk hosted radio shows with Dawson as special guest before Dawson also appeared on Malcolm T Elliott’s radio shows on 2UE Sydney when Dawson was music feature writer and columnist on the Sydney Daily Mirror from 1980-85.

Louisiana band Crowe Boys – Ocie, Jacob and Wes Crowe who record as Crowe Boys – ignite a bonfire on their Nu Country TV debut.

They perform Bonfire In My Soul as part of a trilogy.

It’s among 10 songs they wrote for their debut album Made To Wander that came out on June 6.

They escaped prison guards in their previous video Bootstraps.

Ocie Crowe plays acoustic guitar and Wes Crowe on mandolin.

They were born in Baton Rouge and spent some of their childhood in Pride, Louisiana, living next door to their grandparents.

When Ocie was 11 and Wes was 8, they lost their mother to breast cancer at just 33.

The family then settled in the small town of Franklinton, Louisiana, when their dad remarried.

“Music was where we went when we were frustrated or angry or confused or just hurt,” Ocie revealed.

“We might have been at a church or might have been home in a den with instruments set up, and we would just go in there and lay it all out. That was our way of processing and working through life, and we chose to do it together. Music really is more than just something we do. It’s a spiritual experience for us, being able to share it with people.”
