MATT JOE HONOURS HIS MOTHER MARIA

Expat Kiwi singer-songwriter Matt Joe Gow returns live in a Melbourne studio with a revamped video tribute to his late mother Maria who died in New Zealand on July 8 last year while he was on tour in Melbourne.

Matt Joe had a plane trip booked to New Zealand to be with his mother but didn't make it in time.

Dunedin born Gow had extra reasons to honour his mum and pharmaceutical professor-chorister father Paul who enrolled him in classical piano lessons at the age of five.

Matt, now 43, recut his fourth album title-track Between Tonight And Tomorrow as he played guitar and mandolin on the Woodshed studio floor in Eltham.

Matt's new EP Closer To Tomorrow features five versions of his song he is promoting with a reprise, remix, instrumental remix, ambient version and ambient instrumental versions.

Gow wrote the song and lyrics but was not a one-man band when he recorded acoustic guitar and mandolin live with his Dead Leaves guitarist Andrew Pollock and Chris Elliott.

Matt Joe produced the reprise with Pollock and produced and arranged the other versions that veer from space ballads to ethereal ambient excursions.

The trio also mixed and mastered the disc that features Gow's artwork and design.

Gow recently released his Your Heart Of Gold video with touring partner Kerryn Fields.

Californian family band Wild And Blue lead two-steppers in the Riptide Bar in San Francisco on their Nu Country debut.

April Bennett sang and her dad Steve provided harmonies, percussion and guitar, Max Bennett-Parker was on piano and Charlie Wallace was on pedal steel.

I Wouldn't Have It Any Other Way is on their new disc that follows their debut album Restless.

Steve and April dubbed themselves Wild & Blue in honor of the classic John Scott Sherrill song of the same name.

Back when April was still small enough to fit in Steve's guitar case they busked on the streets of their coastal home of Santa Cruz.

“We're both musical history buffs and have a great sense of urgency about the music that we're making together. I personally can't sing anything that I don't feel” April revealed.

BETH LUCAS BOOTS BEHIND BARS TINY TOWN DOUBLE SHOT

Queensland singer Beth Lucas revisits hometown Yandina after a 20 year absence in her Nu Country debut recorded with Michael Moko.

She illustrated her Home-Town video with photos from her childhood and the house she grew up in.

It was sold 20 years ago before her family passed away.

Beth also showcased her historic beloved local ginger factory in her debut single Home-Town for indie country label RTC Records .

Home-Town captures reality of returning to one's roots that resonate deeply, reflecting universal struggle of reconciling the past with the present.

The Jazmyn Produces video pays homage to loved ones who have passed away, creating a poignant reminder of their enduring influence.

"Home-Town was the first country song I wrote and I wanted the clip to be as authentic as possible, so to be able to film it at my childhood home despite the family selling it 20-odd years ago was truly bittersweet," Beth revealed.

"I was also able to include some old family videos, which really helps to set the scene and tell the story in full. I'm so proud of this song and video, Jazmyn has created something really special that I hope resonates with my audience.”

Lucas graduated from CMAA's Academy of Country Music Australia 's senior course Academy as recipient of coveted Keith Urban Scholarship before the 2023 Tamworth festival.
